The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has temporarily suspended its ongoing industrial action, with members directed to return to work from Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The decision was announced by the Association’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which said the suspension would remain in effect pending further engagements with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
According to GAUA, members are expected to resume their duties while the Association continues discussions to resolve the issues that led to the industrial action.

The NEC said a key meeting with the FWSC is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, and is expected to help determine the next course of action.
The Association is also expected to engage the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Minister for Education as part of efforts to address the concerns raised by university administrators.
GAUA said the decision to suspend the industrial action is intended to create space for meaningful dialogue and further negotiations with the relevant authorities.
Members have consequently been directed to return to their respective workplaces and continue their duties while the discussions are ongoing.
In a notice issued to members, the NEC expressed appreciation for their solidarity, cooperation and commitment throughout the industrial action.
The leadership also urged members to remain patient and committed as negotiations with the government agencies continue.
GAUA further directed members to await additional communication after the August 25 meeting, which is expected to provide clarity on the Association’s next steps.
The temporary suspension brings some relief to university operations as authorities and the Association seek a negotiated resolution to the issues underlying the dispute.
