Two Ghanaian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been critically injured after missiles struck the Ghana Battalion Headquarters in southern Lebanon amid escalating clashes between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the attack occurred during renewed exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters in the region.
According to the military, two missiles hit the Ghanaian base within minutes of each other.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that as a fallout of the current ongoing IDF and Hezbollah exchanges in Southern Lebanon, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in UNIFIL, Lebanon came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today,” the statement said.
The attack left two soldiers with critical injuries, while another personnel member suffered trauma.
Military authorities indicated that the injured troops are currently receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
“The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital,” the statement added.
The missile strike also caused extensive damage to facilities within the base.
According to the statement, the Officers’ Mess at the Ghanaian camp was hit and destroyed by fire following the attack.
Despite the incident, the Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that other personnel stationed at the base remain safe.
“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers,” the military noted.
Meanwhile, the Government has formally protested the attack through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
The government has called on all parties involved in the conflict to respect their obligations to guarantee the safety of peacekeepers deployed in the mission area.
The statement announcing the incident was signed by Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Ghana remains one of the leading contributors to United Nations peacekeeping operations, with its troops deployed in several missions worldwide, including Lebanon, where they help monitor hostilities and support stability along the Israel–Lebanon border.
