The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, has criticised United States President Donald Trump, describing him as a bully in the conduct of international affairs.

He warned that such actions could destabilise global peace and negatively affect countries like Ghana.

Speaking during a discussion on global tensions and ongoing geopolitical conflicts on Newsfile on Saturday, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru stressed that history has shown that military force cannot provide lasting solutions to international disputes.

“War or armed conflict can never and has never been a solution to any disputes,” he said.

He cited global icons such as Nelson Mandela, noting that respected leaders and Nobel Prize winners have consistently advocated peaceful dialogue as the best way to resolve conflicts.

The Walewale MP argued that powerful countries sometimes misuse their military strength to impose their will on other nations. According to him, Trump’s approach reflects such behaviour.

“As a matter of fact, Donald Trump is trying to be a bully, and that is the reality,” he said. He questioned what he described as inconsistencies in U.S. foreign policy toward Iran.

“You went and bombed Iran and told the whole world that you had obliterated a nuclear enrichment centre. Less than six months down the line, you are telling the world that Iran is still developing nuclear weapons,” he said. “Look at the inconsistency and the double standards.”

Dr. Abdul-Kabiru emphasised that attempts by powerful nations to influence or change governments in other countries undermine sovereignty and often provoke resistance.

“For any leader to contemplate installing a certain order in another country, a system you have little knowledge about, you are going to get it wrong,” he stated.

He noted that people across the world are prepared to stand against any bully and defend their identity and sovereignty even at great cost.

“To the extent that you are encroaching on my sovereignty and what makes me who I am, people will fight to the death,” he added.

The MP warned that smaller nations must not remain silent when powerful countries act unjustly and bullish against others.

According to him, silence could eventually leave Ghana vulnerable if similar actions were taken against it.

“If it happens to Venezuela or Iran and we keep quiet because we are not Venezuelans or Iranians, the day it happens to Ghana, people will not be there to speak for us,” he said.

He acknowledged, however, that Ghana in recent times has become more vocal on issues relating to international law, human rights, and the principles of the United Nations.

Dr. Abdul-Kabiru also warned that escalating tensions in the Middle East could have direct economic consequences for Ghana, particularly through rising oil prices.

“From about $65 per barrel, oil prices have already moved to around $92, and analysts are saying it is only a matter of time before it hits $100 if the conflict continues,” he explained.

He noted that such increases would inevitably affect fuel prices and the broader cost of living in Ghana.

The MP also raised concerns about potential security implications if global conflicts expand.

He warned that economic pressures could push some individuals to join foreign wars.

“We already have Ghanaians fighting in the Russia–Ukraine war. If these hostilities continue, you may see Ghanaians joining other conflicts simply because they want to earn a living,” he said.

According to him, such developments could pose national security challenges and require closer monitoring by authorities.

Dr. Abdul-Kabiru urged global leaders to prioritise diplomacy and peaceful dialogue over military confrontation, warning that continued escalation could have far-reaching consequences for both global stability and smaller economies like Ghana.
