Business mogul and founder and Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, has demanded an immediate retraction and apology from GhanaWeb over what his lawyers describe as a defamatory publication linking him to alleged procurement irregularities at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

In a letter dated March 4, 2026, his solicitors, Kwame Gyan & Associates, accused the online news platform of publishing false claims that suggested their client was implicated in criminal investigations connected to contracts awarded under the former COCOBOD administration led by Joseph Boahen Aidoo.

According to the lawyers, the article—captioned “Ex-COCOBOD chiefs finally face criminal investigations – Report”—implied that Dr. Agyepong had benefited from procurement deals that were under scrutiny.

The publication reportedly stated: “Some of the procurement deals were awarded to Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the founder of the Jospong Group and owner of Accra-based Metro TV.”

The legal team argues that the claim created the impression that their client was involved in financial misconduct or criminal wrongdoing.

“It is his case that your media network… made statements which are grossly defamatory of his person and character,” the letter said.

The lawyers insisted that their client has never been a beneficiary of contracts under the previous COCOBOD administration and is not under any criminal investigation.

They further criticised the inclusion of Dr. Agyepong’s image alongside others in the report, saying it wrongfully suggested his involvement in activities that allegedly caused financial loss to the state.

The publication, the lawyers said, “Sought to portray our client as complicit in financial irregularities, thereby gravely impugning his credibility and hard-won reputation.”

To avert legal action, the lawyers have given GhanaWeb three days to comply with their demands.

They are requesting the platform to: Immediately remove the article from its website and social media platforms, and publish a full and unqualified retraction and apology with the same prominence as the original story

Failure to comply, the letter warned, could result in legal proceedings for defamation.

The lawyers stressed Dr. Agyepong’s business track record, noting that through his network of companies, he has created employment for more than 200,000 people and contributed to community development across Ghana.

“Our client’s reputation has been tarnished both at home and abroad,” the letter stated, adding that the publication exposed him to public scandal, contempt, and reputational damage.

The legal team cautioned the media outlet to balance its freedom of expression with the constitutional protection of an individual’s right to a good reputation.
