The Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Sir Sam Jonah, has praised Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for her integrity and unblemished public record, describing her as a rare example of principled leadership in Ghanaian public life.

Sir Sam Jonah made the remarks on Friday, March 13, 2026, during a ceremony at the university where he conferred a Distinguished Fellow Award on the Vice President in recognition of her outstanding achievements and decades of public service.

Addressing the gathering, the UCC Chancellor said while the Vice President’s academic accomplishments and leadership record are widely known, her most defining quality remains her integrity.

“I have spoken of her achievements. I have spoken of her leadership. But there is a quality that underpins all of it — and it is, in truth, the rarest quality in public life. I speak of integrity,” he stated.

Sir Sam Jonah commended Professor Opoku-Agyemang for maintaining an unblemished reputation throughout her career, from academia to national leadership.

“Not a single scandal. Not a whisper of controversy. In a world where power so often corrodes, and where public trust so often frays, she has navigated the full complexity of leadership with her honour completely intact,” he said.

According to him, the Vice President’s career demonstrates that ethical leadership remains possible even in challenging political environments.

The Chancellor also described the Vice President as a symbol of true patriotism, explaining that genuine patriotism involves placing the interests of the country above personal benefit.

“It is unwavering honesty when honesty is costly. It is selfless dedication when dedication is exhausting,” he added.

He stressed that the country needs more leaders whose actions reinforce citizens’ trust in public institutions.

Sir Sam Jonah noted that Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s leadership offers hope at a time when public confidence in institutions is often tested.

“Her example shines as a beacon. She reminds us that principled leadership is not a relic of a nobler age. It is possible. It is practised. It is present among us today,” he said.

He stated that while achievements may attract admiration, integrity inspires trust, making the honour bestowed on the Vice President both timely and deserved.

The ceremony brought together senior university officials, students and members of the community to celebrate one of Ghana’s most respected public figures.
