The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, has indicated that the second fuel pricing window on Monday, March 16, could trigger discussions about the possible removal of some fuel taxes at the pumps.

Mr Amoah indicated that the government is closely monitoring developments and may consider adjusting or removing certain fuel taxes to ease pressure on oil marketing companies (OMCs).

According to him, the Ghana fuel tax review could become necessary if pump prices move beyond a critical threshold.

He was speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday.

“I am aware that the government was in some conversation with some petroleum service providers. The threshold has been GH¢15. So, if we wake up tomorrow and the OMCs are doing 15 and beyond, be assured that the conversation about the taxes will kick in, particularly the GH¢1 fuel levy,” he said.

The possible Ghana fuel tax review comes at a time when global energy markets are experiencing volatility due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted supply chains and pushed crude oil prices upward.

Market analysts warn that rising international oil prices and potential supply constraints could lead to higher domestic fuel prices.

Such increases could have wider economic consequences, including higher transport fares and additional pressure on household budgets across Ghana.

Industry observers say the Ghana fuel tax review may become a key policy option for government if global oil market pressures persist in the coming weeks.
