Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has stated that while Ghana possesses the human capital needed for development, poor organisation remains a key obstacle to achieving sustainable progress.

According to him, the country’s challenges are not rooted in a lack of expertise but rather in inefficiencies within institutions.

“As a country, we have the human resources needed to deliver. We have the competence to run our country properly,” he stated.

Speaking during a leadership engagement in Parliament with the World Bank Group led by Pachal Donohoe, Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer, the Minority stressed that Ghana’s development efforts would yield better results only if institutions are more structured and coordinated.

“We can have the competencies, but we are not well-organised,” he said, stressing the need for reforms that improve how public institutions function.

He pointed out that better organisation would enhance policy implementation and ensure that national development goals are met more effectively.

Mr. Ayariga stressed the depth of experience within Parliament, noting that many lawmakers have previously served in executive roles.

“Most Members of Parliament have been ministers or held positions in government at different times,” he explained.

This, he said, provides a strong foundation for effective governance, if properly harnessed through improved systems and coordination.

The Majority Leader called for deliberate efforts to adopt international best practices in governance and parliamentary work.

“We haven’t benefited enough from how others have organised themselves to do it better,” he noted, urging greater exposure to global models that have proven successful.

Learning from other jurisdictions, he stressed, could significantly improve Ghana’s economic and financial governance systems.

Mr. Ayariga also underscored the importance of accountability in ensuring that Ghana’s potential is fully realized.

According to him, the focus should be on how Ghanaians hold each other accountable to the commitments we make.

He added that strong accountability systems would ensure that policies are not only implemented but also deliver tangible results for citizens.

Despite the challenges, the Majority Leader expressed confidence in Ghana’s future, noting signs of progress in economic management.

“With discipline and proper organisation, we can achieve sustainable growth and stability,” he said.

He reiterated that Ghana’s success ultimately depends on its ability to effectively manage its resources and institutions.

Mr. Ayariga reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting reforms aimed at improving governance and institutional efficiency.

He stressed that with the right structures in place, Ghana can fully harness its human capital and deliver long-term development for its people.
