US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s leaders are “afraid” to acknowledge ongoing negotiations with Washington.
His remarks come after Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, told state media that Tehran currently has “no intention of negotiating” and will continue to defend itself.
Despite this, Trump’s comments suggest a mixed messaging approach, raising questions about Washington’s preferred exit strategy, according to analysts.
Earlier, the White House indicated that the US was “very close” to achieving its objectives in Iran, adding that Tehran’s leadership may be seeking an “exit ramp” from the conflict.
Meanwhile, an Iranian official told state media that Tehran has outlined five conditions for ending the war. These include a comprehensive cessation of hostilities “across all fronts” and the payment of reparations.
Reports also indicate that Iran recently received a 15-point proposal from the US. While Tehran initially rejected the plan, Araghchi later stated that “if a position needs to be taken, it will certainly be determined.”
