The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a comprehensive revision of its internal election guidelines following challenges encountered during the ongoing registration and electoral process.
The National Executive Committee (NEC), acting on behalf of the National Council in line with provisions of the party’s constitution, approved the revised guidelines at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, April 8, at the party’s headquarters.
The updated guidelines introduce significant changes across polling stations, electoral areas, chapters, and branch-level elections, aimed at strengthening internal democracy, improving transparency, and ensuring a smoother electoral process.

At the polling station level, the party has directed that elections be suspended in disputed areas where concerns arise, particularly involving members who registered online but are denied participation. Such cases are to be escalated through the Constituency Executive Committee to the Regional Steering Committee for resolution.
Additionally, each Polling Station Elections Committee will now supervise up to 25 polling stations, an increase intended to streamline operations. The revised rules also clarify eligibility, allowing members in clustered polling stations to contest within their electoral areas, provided they meet residency requirements.
For electoral area elections, committees will oversee up to 10 electoral areas, while polling station officers seeking to contest must resign before filing nominations.
The guidelines further outline reforms for chapter and branch elections, including the introduction of both in-person and electronic voting options via the party’s official e-voting platform. Eligibility remains tied to a minimum of two years of active membership.
The party also standardized executive structures across chapters, constituencies, branches, and regions, with clearly defined elected and appointed roles, including positions such as chairperson, secretary, organiser, and communications officer.
Meanwhile, the NEC has established an ad-hoc committee to develop a comprehensive manual detailing the roles and responsibilities of party officers at all levels. The committee is chaired by Peter Mac Manu, with support from a team of senior party figures.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party urged all stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the revised guidelines and adhere strictly to them.
The NPP leadership emphasized that the reforms are critical to ensuring a credible, inclusive, and transparent internal electoral process, reinforcing the party’s commitment to its democratic values.
