The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, overturning her earlier conviction and 10-year prison sentence.
In a landmark judgment delivered on Thursday, the appellate court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu beyond reasonable doubt.
The decision effectively sets aside the convictions previously entered against the former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) boss by the High Court.

Conviction overturned
The ruling followed an appeal filed by Ms Tamakloe-Attionu challenging both her conviction and the propriety of the trial and sentencing conducted in her absence.
Her legal team argued that the charges brought against her were fundamentally defective and that the prosecution had failed to establish the alleged offences to the required criminal standard.
After considering the appeal, the Court of Appeal upheld the challenge and acquitted and discharged the former MASLOC CEO.
The decision brings a major turn in the long-running legal case involving the former public official.
Ms Tamakloe-Attionu was extradited from the United States and returned to Ghana on June 9, 2026, before beginning a 10-year prison sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison on June 24, 2026.
She had travelled to the United States in 2021 with permission from the High Court to seek medical treatment while her trial was ongoing but subsequently failed to return to Ghana.
Her return to the country followed efforts to bring her back to face the legal consequences of the case.
In 2024, an Accra High Court found Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu guilty of multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing.
The charges were linked to allegations involving the misappropriation and diversion of state resources during her tenure as Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC.
The High Court subsequently sentenced her to 10 years in prison.
However, the former MASLOC CEO challenged the conviction and sentence at the Court of Appeal.
Conviction set aside
The Court of Appeal has now overturned the High Court’s decision, ruling that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The appellate court’s decision means that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has been acquitted and discharged, reversing the earlier conviction and 10-year prison sentence.
The judgment represents a significant development in one of the high-profile corruption-related cases involving a former public official in Ghana.
