Two suspected armed robbers have been shot and killed by a police team in Tema following a Mobile Money (MoMo) robbery attack at Community 5 on Monday morning, April 13, 2026.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where a female MoMo vendor sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during a struggle with the attackers.

According to a statement issued by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived on a motorbike and initially posed as customers.

One of the suspects reportedly approached the vendor under the pretext of conducting a cash-out transaction. However, as the victim attempted to process the request, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash.

A struggle ensued when the vendor resisted, prompting the second suspect to intervene. In the course of the confrontation, the victim was shot in the leg, allowing the robbers to seize the cash and flee the scene.

A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, already deployed within the area, quickly responded and intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital.

The suspects ignored orders to stop and instead sped off toward the Smart Hotel area, firing at the pursuing officers. Police returned fire, hitting both suspects and forcing them off their motorbike.

“They were transported to the Police Hospital for medical attention but were pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement confirmed.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of several items believed to be linked to the robbery: Cash amounting to GH¢11,390.00, suspected to be stolen proceeds; One black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition; Three Android phones and multiple SIM cards; a talisman; and a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.

Police also recovered an empty shell casing at the robbery scene, believed to have been discharged from the suspects’ weapon.

The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety and security across the metropolis, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
