Assembly members within communities affected by the operations of Adamus Resources Limited are calling for immediate government intervention to address escalating tensions between residents and the mining firm.

The appeal is directed at the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, amid fears that the situation could deteriorate into a major security challenge if not urgently addressed.

Speaking on behalf of colleagues recently, Assembly Member for the Salma Electoral Area, Yacoub Abdul Aziz, described the situation as increasingly worrying, noting that tensions in several communities remain high following recent protests.

According to him, the unrest reflects deep frustration among residents, many of whom feel sidelined despite repeated attempts to engage the company on issues affecting their livelihoods.

“For some time now, the security situation in some communities within Nzema East and surrounding areas has been compromised because of recent demonstrations by residents,” he said.

The concerns follow a recent protest by residents on the company’s concessions, during which some demonstrators reportedly burnt tyres, blocked roads and damaged security installations.

Mr. Aziz explained that the protest underscores the level of dissatisfaction among community members, particularly the youth, who feel excluded from decisions regarding the use of local mining concessions.

He warned that the growing anger could easily escalate if decisive action is not taken.

While acknowledging previous efforts by the Lands Minister to address the issue, the assembly members insist that more intensive engagement is needed to resolve the impasse.

They urged government to facilitate broader consultations involving the company, traditional authorities, opinion leaders, assembly members and affected residents.

According to them, inclusive dialogue will help rebuild trust and create a pathway toward a lasting solution.

At the heart of the dispute are concerns by residents over access to mining opportunities and the management of concessions.

Community members have raised questions about the company’s alleged decision to lease parts of its concessions to foreign nationals for alluvial mining activities, arguing that such arrangements are unfair and potentially unlawful.

They also claim that local miners have repeatedly been denied access to portions of the concession, despite persistent requests over the years.

The Assembly members warn that prolonged tensions could negatively affect economic activities and social stability in the area.

They note that many residents depend directly or indirectly on mining for their livelihoods; therefore, any disruption could worsen hardship and unemployment, particularly among the youth.

The assembly members therefore appealed to government to act swiftly to de-escalate tensions and restore calm in the affected communities.

They called for a transparent and structured process to address grievances, improve communication between the company and residents, and ensure fairness in the allocation and use of mining concessions.

The warned that failure to act promptly could lead to further unrest and undermine peace in the district.

For several months, residents in parts of the Nzema East District have been expressing concerns over the operations of Adamus Resources Limited.

Many believe the recent demonstration reflects years of unresolved grievances, including alleged lack of transparency, limited community engagement, and perceived exclusion from mining opportunities.

The situation, stakeholders warn, now requires urgent national attention to prevent further escalation and ensure sustainable coexistence between the Adamus Resources Limited and host communities.
