The Office of the Auditor-General has issued an apology after wrongly attributing GH¢427,995,661.40 in unearned salary to a public servant, Frank Oliver Kpodo.
The figure was initially captured in the Auditor-General’s report on the Nationwide Payroll Audit covering the period January 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025, which was dated November 20, 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Frederick Lokko, the Office acknowledged the mistake and apologised for the distress caused.

“We offer our sincere and unreserved apologies to Mr Frank Oliver Kpodo for the distress and unwarranted public scrutiny this error may have caused,” the statement said.
The Auditor-General clarified that the amount was incorrectly assigned due to a transpositional error during the audit process.
According to the statement, the GH¢427.9 million figure actually relates to the Ministry of Education Ghana, specifically concerning 3,476 unaccounted staff identified during the audit.
The Office emphasised that Mr Kpodo is not responsible for the amount previously stated and should not have been linked to the figure in the report.
The correction aims to set the record straight and address any reputational damage caused by the earlier publication.
The Nationwide Payroll Audit was conducted to identify irregularities and ensure accountability within the public sector payroll system.
While the error has now been acknowledged and corrected, the findings relating to unaccounted staff within the Ministry of Education remain a matter of concern for auditors and policymakers.
The clarification by the Auditor-General is expected to restore public confidence in the audit process while reinforcing the need for accuracy in reporting sensitive financial data.
