The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued an unreserved apology following intense public backlash over remarks suggesting that postings to northern Ghana could be viewed as a form of punishment.
In a statement released by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister described the controversial comments—captured in a viral video—as a “genuine slip in communication” that does not reflect her true position or government policy.
“My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated video in which I made remarks suggesting that postings to the northern part of our beloved country could be considered as a form of punishment,” she said. “I wish to state, without reservation, that those comments do not reflect my considered views.”

Mrs. Ocloo explained that the statement arose while she was responding to a media query about allegations involving technocrats accused of issuing development permits without due process. According to her, some officials are often reposted to nearby districts, enabling questionable practices to persist.
She clarified that in attempting to address the issue, she referenced instances where public officers had been transferred far from their usual places of residence—an explanation she now concedes was poorly framed.
“Regrettably, my choice of words created the unintended impression that such postings were punitive,” she admitted.
The Minister extended a direct apology to Ghanaians, particularly residents of the northern regions, acknowledging the offence and discomfort caused by her remarks.
“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the northern regions,” she stated.
Reaffirming her stance, Mrs. Ocloo stressed her commitment to fairness, professionalism, and due process in public administration. She assured that postings and transfers within the public service remain guided strictly by established rules and not by punitive intent.
She further called on the public to consider the matter clarified, pledging to continue serving with integrity, accountability, and respect for all regions of the country.
