New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, Paul Awentami Afoko, has stepped up efforts to build consensus within the party through a fresh round of high-level consultations with influential party leaders and stakeholders.
As part of what sources describe as a strategic unity and reconciliation drive ahead of the NPP’s upcoming National Delegates Conference, Mr Afoko has held separate meetings with former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, former Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor, as well as former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The latest engagements form part of the second phase of Mr Afoko’s nationwide outreach campaign aimed at reconnecting the party’s grassroots with its leadership and healing internal divisions following the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat.

Before the party’s January 31, 2026, presidential primaries, Mr Afoko had already met all five aspirants, including Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Yaw Osei Adutwum, in what was widely viewed as an attempt to promote unity and collective purpose within the party.
Running on his “3R Agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture — the former NPP National Chairman says the party must focus on internal cohesion, competence, and strategic reorganisation to position itself strongly for victory in the 2028 general elections.
The consultations, according to insiders, are intended to tap into the experience of senior party figures, gather concerns from various factions, and build a broad-based consensus on the future direction of the NPP.
“You cannot rebuild a house by ignoring the architects,” a member of Mr Afoko’s team reportedly stated, stressing the importance of engaging past and present leaders who have shaped the party’s growth over the years.
Sources close to the meetings say Mr Afoko reiterated the need for unity, an end to internal blame games and a renewed commitment to strengthening the party’s structures across the country.
He is also said to have renewed his call for the NPP to prioritise competence and leadership capacity over ethnic considerations in the selection of its next National Chairman.
The outreach follows recent engagements with the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders and regional executives in Kumasi, as Mr Afoko continues his nationwide consultations with party stakeholders and grassroots supporters.
Political observers within the party believe the meetings signal a calculated effort by the former chairman to mend strained relationships, consolidate support, and position himself as a unifying figure capable of leading the NPP into a new era ahead of 2028.
