The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied allegations that government resources meant for cocoa farmers are being diverted to purchase aircraft for President John Dramani Mahama.

The party described the claims as false, irresponsible, and part of a broader misinformation campaign being pushed by the opposition.

The accusation was reportedly made by Frank Annoh-Dompreh during a tour of cocoa-growing communities, where he allegedly claimed the government was using cocoa farmers’ money to finance the acquisition of four aircraft for the President.

Reacting to the allegation at the relaunch of the NDC’s “Setting the Records Straight” platform in Accra, Deputy National Communications Officer Ako Gunn firmly rejected the claims.

“As part of their tour to cocoa-growing areas, he said the government is using the farmers’ money to buy four aircraft for the President. These are false,” Ako Gunn stated.

He further described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

“They have even gone as far as alleging that public funds have been used to purchase four aircraft for the President, a claim that is not only palpably false but highly irresponsible,” he added.

According to Ako Gunn, the opposition New Patriotic Party has resorted to a deliberate misinformation strategy after failing to convince the public on governance and policy matters.

He argued that the claims being circulated in cocoa-growing areas were intended to create public resentment among farmers by linking government programmes to unsubstantiated accusations.

The NDC communicator further accused the opposition of relying on what he described as half-truths and calculated propaganda to distort public understanding of government policies.

He explained that the relaunch of the ‘Setting the Records Straight’ platform forms part of the party’s strategy to quickly respond to controversial political claims and provide what he called factual clarity in national discourse.
