The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with the Ministries of Defence, Finance, and Roads and Highways, has cleared 175.6 kilometres of right-of-way along the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway in just 19 weeks.
The exercise, which forms part of the government’s preparatory works for the major road project, was completed one week ahead of the scheduled 20-week timeline.
The milestone highlights the growing role of the Ghana Armed Forces in supporting major national infrastructure projects through its engineering capabilities.

Engineers from the GAF worked alongside officials from the relevant government institutions to clear the right-of-way along the proposed expressway corridor, creating the conditions for subsequent phases of the project to proceed.
The Armed Forces described the achievement as “delivering on mission ahead of schedule”, while GAF Engineers reaffirmed their commitment to engineering excellence and staying “one step ahead.”
The 175.6-kilometre clearance represents a significant preparatory milestone for the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway, one of Ghana’s major planned road infrastructure projects.
The project is expected to improve connectivity between the two major economic centres and enhance movement along the Accra-Kumasi corridor when completed.
The collaboration between the GAF and the Ministries of Defence, Finance, and Roads and Highways is expected to facilitate the government’s efforts to advance preparatory activities and move the expressway project towards its next stages.
The latest achievement also underscores the capacity of the GAF Engineers to undertake large-scale engineering and logistical operations in support of national development.
With the right-of-way clearance completed ahead of schedule, attention will now turn to the subsequent stages required to advance the proposed expressway.
