The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has described the recent cocoa price cut as the biggest scam by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

He accused the government of failing to protect the welfare of cocoa farmers as pledged on numerous campaign platforms before the 2024 general election.

Speaking at a Minority Caucus strategy workshop on Tuesday, he argued that the policy decision undermines Ghana’s cocoa sector and places additional financial pressure on farmers who depend heavily on cocoa production for their livelihoods.

According to the Minority Whip, cocoa farmers are among the most vulnerable groups in the agricultural value chain and must be protected from unfavourable pricing decisions that could affect production and rural incomes.

He said the government’s approach to cocoa pricing demonstrates a lack of sensitivity to the economic realities facing farming communities across the country.

He urged the government to immediately introduce cushioning measures to protect farmers from income losses and market shocks.

Hon. Annoh-Dompreh also criticised the broader economic management of the current administration, linking the cocoa price adjustment to what he described as wider policy failures affecting key sectors of the economy.

He argued that decisions being taken by the government are worsening conditions for ordinary citizens, especially those in rural agricultural communities.

The Minority Chief Whip called on the opposition caucus to intensify scrutiny of government policies, stressing the need for a united parliamentary front to demand accountability and protect national economic interests.

The Minority, he said, would continue to highlight policy decisions they consider harmful to farmers, workers, and vulnerable groups.

He reaffirmed the caucus’s commitment to building a stronger political alternative ahead of the 2028 general elections, insisting that the opposition must remain focused, disciplined, and united.
