The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has briefed Parliament on the status of investigations into the armed robbery attack on a gold shop at Adabraka in Accra, which occurred on 2 November 2024.

The update was given in response to a parliamentary question filed by the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who sought clarity on progress made in the case.

Presenting the details on the floor of the House, the Interior Minister outlined a comprehensive timeline of police investigations, arrests, and prosecutions linked to the violent robbery incident.

The incident involved armed men who attacked the gold shop after a transaction involving large sums of money and quantities of gold had been completed.

The suspects, armed with AK-47 rifles and travelling in a Toyota Highlander, blocked the victims’ vehicle, fired warning shots, and proceeded to rob the occupants of GH¢7.5 million in cash as well as 620 grams of gold valued at over GH¢860,000.

The Minister told Parliament that police activated surveillance and intelligence operations following the attack, leading to multiple arrests over time.

He disclosed that between November 2025 and January 2026, several suspects were arrested in different operations across Accra and its surrounding areas, while others remained at large.

Among those arrested, according to the Minister, were individuals linked to the planning and execution of the robbery, some of whom were subsequently identified through identification parades conducted by investigators.

The Interior Minister further informed the House that a thorough search of one suspect’s residence led to the recovery of ammunition, pump-action guns, police bulletproof vests, and other items believed to be connected to criminal activities.

He added that the vehicle used in the robbery, a Toyota Highlander, was later recovered and found to have been repainted to conceal its identity.

Mr. Mubarak also confirmed that the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for review and advice on prosecution.

On the current status of the case, the Minister revealed that all suspects were granted bail on 8 April 2026, with bail conditions set at GH¢15 million with four sureties each, all to be justified with landed property.

He noted that the case has been adjourned to 15 June 2026 for further hearing.

The Interior Minister assured Parliament that investigations are ongoing to apprehend remaining suspects still at large and to ensure that all individuals involved in the robbery are brought to justice.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening security operations and ensuring public safety amid rising concerns over violent crime incidents in parts of the country.
