Dr. Bossman Asare has resigned from his position as Deputy Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), marking a significant development within one of the country’s key democratic institutions.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, during a press briefing in Accra on Monday, June 15.
According to the Minister, the resignation comes as the Council of State is also considering a nominee to replace Deputy EC Chair Samuel Tettey, who is due for retirement.

Dr. Bossman Asare was appointed to the Electoral Commission by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and has served as Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Services.
The Electoral Commission, established under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and governed by the Electoral Commission Act, 1992 (Act 451), is mandated to organize and supervise all public elections and referenda in the country.
The Commission plays a central role in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic process by overseeing voter registration, conducting elections, and ensuring electoral integrity.
The EC is currently headed by Chairperson Jean Mensa. The latest developments are expected to trigger discussions about the future leadership and direction of the Commission as Ghana continues efforts to strengthen its democratic institutions.
