The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has renamed its national headquarters at Adabraka in Accra as “Jerry Rawlings House” in honour of the party’s founder, former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.
The official naming ceremony and unveiling of a bust of the late statesman will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of activities marking what would have been his 79th birthday.
The event, expected to be led by President John Dramani Mahama and other senior party officials, comes five years and seven months after the passing of Ghana’s former military leader and democratically elected President.

According to a statement signed by the NDC’s Deputy National Communication Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, the commemorative activities are being organised in partnership with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation under the theme: “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.”
The first event of the day will be the official naming of the party headquarters after Flt Lt Rawlings and the unveiling of his bust at 9:00 a.m. at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka.
President Mahama, alongside leading members of the party, is expected to address participants and reflect on the enduring legacy of the man widely regarded as the architect of the NDC.
The second event will be a lecture and exhibition at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, near the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Accra, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The keynote address will be delivered by renowned Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata.
Other speakers scheduled to participate include Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and former Minister for Information and National Security, Kofi Totobi Quakyi.
The NDC has invited members of the public, party supporters, cadres and sympathisers to participate in the commemorative events to celebrate the life, contributions and enduring legacy of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.
