New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant, Paul Awentami Afoko, has declared that the party’s ultimate mission is to reclaim political power in 2028 and pave the way for former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to become Ghana’s next President.
Addressing party supporters during a tour of the Volta, Oti, and Central Regions, Mr. Afoko said the NPP must focus on unity and grassroots mobilisation if it hopes to recover from its electoral setbacks and return stronger ahead of the next general election.
According to him, the party’s current challenges should not discourage members but rather inspire them to work harder towards rebuilding the political tradition they have spent decades nurturing.

“The mission is simple. We want to bring the NPP back to power and ensure that Dr. Bawumia becomes President of Ghana. But that can only happen if we come together as one family and work towards a common goal,” he said.
Mr. Afoko stressed that internal divisions have weakened the party and contributed to its declining electoral fortunes. He therefore urged members to put aside factional interests and embrace reconciliation to strengthen the party’s base.
He noted that the NPP’s reduced parliamentary representation serves as a stark reminder of the work that lies ahead.
“We cannot afford to remain divided. The numbers speak for themselves. We need unity, discipline, and a renewed commitment to the ideals of the party if we are to regain the confidence of Ghanaians,” he stated.
The former National Chairman said his campaign is anchored on the principles of Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture Power, which he described as the roadmap for restoring the NPP’s electoral strength.
Under the reunification agenda, Mr. Afoko said every effort must be made to bring back aggrieved members and heal longstanding wounds within the party.
He explained that rebuilding would involve strengthening party structures at the polling station, constituency, regional, and national levels while empowering grassroots members to play a more active role in decision-making.
Mr. Afoko expressed confidence that once the party successfully reunites and rebuilds its structures, it would be well-positioned to challenge for power in 2028.
He called on party faithful across the country to rally behind the vision, insisting that a united NPP remains Ghana’s best vehicle for economic transformation and national development.
“Our focus must be on the future. We must reorganise, reconnect with the grassroots and work tirelessly to ensure victory in 2028,” he added.
