President John Dramani Mahama has given assurance that all ongoing Big Push projects will accelerate once the current heavy rains subside, with allocated funds already in place.

During an inspection tour of the Kafodzidzi Road Project in the Central Region, the President addressed concerns about slowed construction due to severe flooding across the country.

He noted that the temporary reduction in pace was necessary to safeguard worker safety and protect the integrity of road foundations.

“We are satisfied with the pace of work. I am sure it will be finished ahead of schedule,” President Mahama stated. “A lot of the Big Push projects around the country have slowed because of the heavy rainfall. As soon as the rains subside, work will continue—money has been allocated and is lying there.”

The President urged contractors to expedite certification processes to access payments promptly, emphasizing that the government will process certificates within time to ensure swift disbursement.

Phase two already in scope

Mahama revealed that his administration is already scoping Phase Two of the Big Push initiative, scheduled to begin next year.

“For those whose roads have not been tackled yet, they can come on Phase Two. We will continue to improve the road network because roads remain Ghana’s main transport artery for passengers and goods,” he added.

Compaction standards

The President issued a direct call to engineers and supervisors, stressing that poor compaction remains a leading cause of road failure across the country.

“Most roads fail because compaction is not well done. That is the seal. After the rain, the road starts to subside. Engineers must ensure contractors test compaction properly,” he charged.
