New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Treasurer, Dr Charles Dwamena, popularly known as Dr China, is set to file his nomination today to contest the position of General Secretary in the party’s upcoming national executive elections.
Dr Dwamena’s campaign is centred on discipline, teamwork, research-driven decision-making, grassroots mobilisation and the welfare of party members as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
He believes the next NPP General Secretary must possess the political maturity and leadership skills needed to unite the party and strengthen its organisational structures ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

The Committee said the vetting of aspirants would commence on Monday, August 31, 2026, and run until September 3.
The results of the vetting are expected to be published on September 5, followed by the appeals process from September 6 to 7.
The National Council and National Executive Committee are scheduled to meet on September 10, while the notice of poll will be issued on September 14.
The election of the party’s national officers is scheduled for October 3, 2026.
Dr Dwamena said the next NPP General Secretary will play a critical role in helping the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, win the 2028 presidential election.
“Whoever occupies the office of the General Secretary going into the next general elections, to make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia successful and become the next president of the Republic of Ghana, that person must exhibit political maturity,” he stated.
He said the party needs a leader capable of bringing members together and promoting teamwork across its structures.
Dr China rejected what he described as “armchair” leadership, insisting that the next General Secretary must remain actively engaged with party structures and grassroots supporters.
“Certainly, the occupant of that office must not be an armchair General Secretary. This person must be someone who believes in teamwork,” he said.
He believes stronger collaboration will be crucial to rebuilding the party and preparing it for the 2028 elections.
Dr Dwamena is also promising to make research and data central to the party’s decision-making processes if elected.
“That person must believe and understand research so that most of our decision-making processes will be research-driven,” he explained.
According to him, research will enable the NPP to better understand voter concerns and develop effective political strategies.
The NPP General Secretary hopeful has also proposed a Business Incubation Fund, group insurance policy and mentorship programmes to improve the welfare and development of party members.
He said the Business Incubation Fund would support eligible members seeking to establish or expand businesses, while mentorship would help prepare young members for future leadership.
Dr China also wants the NPP to strengthen its grassroots structures and deepen engagement with members at constituency, electoral area and branch levels.
Dr Dwamena believes a united, disciplined and well-organised NPP will be essential to supporting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2028 presidential campaign.
He argues that political maturity, teamwork, research-based decision-making and grassroots mobilisation must guide the party’s reorganisation as it prepares for the next general election.
The election of the party’s national officers is scheduled for October 3, 2026, with a total of 50 nomination forms having been purchased.
Vetting of aspirants would commence on Monday, August 31, 2026, and run until September 3. The results of the vetting are expected to be published on September 5, followed by the appeals process from September 6 to 7.
The National Council and National Executive Committee are scheduled to meet on September 10, while the notice of poll will be issued on September 14 before the October 3 election day.
