The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
According to WAEC, the results will be dispatched to schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.
Candidates can also check their 2026 BECE results online through WAEC’s official website.

WAEC said a total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the 2026 BECE.
The candidates comprised 304,415 males and 315,828 females.
The registration figures also included candidates with special examination needs. They comprised:
- 136 candidates with visual impairment
- 282 candidates with hearing assessment needs
- 510 candidates with other test accommodation needs
The 2026 BECE was conducted at 2,237 examination centres across the country.
However, WAEC reported that 3,601 registered candidates were absent from the examination.
Cancelled results
The examination body has also announced sanctions against candidates found to have breached examination regulations following investigations into reported cases of examination irregularities.
WAEC said the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved the cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates.
The entire examination results of 105 candidates have also been cancelled.
In addition, WAEC said:
- Subject results of 119 candidates have been withheld.
- The entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld.
- Subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny.
“The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by August 31, 2026,” WAEC said.
WAEC has directed candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled to visit its dedicated irregularities portal at irreg.waecgh.org.
Affected candidates are required to click on the “withheld” or “cancelled” button on the homepage to view the reasons for the action taken and, where applicable, receive information about the next steps.
Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their results listing logins to check the status of affected candidates.
Warning about fraudsters
WAEC has cautioned candidates, parents and the general public against fraudsters who claim they can alter or change examination results in exchange for money.
The Council stressed that its examination results are protected by security measures and can be authenticated.
“Candidates are to note that WAEC 2026 BECE results are secured and can be authenticated.”
WAEC urged the public to be wary of individuals who promise to manipulate examination results, noting that such claims are fraudulent.
