Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united following the Democracy Under Attack protest, declaring that only party unity and hard work will be key to reclaiming political power in the 2028 general elections.
Addressing thousands of supporters after the NPP Democracy Under Attack protest on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin said the Democracy Under Threat protest reflected the NPP’s resilience and determination, adding that the party’s founding fathers overcame enormous challenges to establish a political tradition built on courage and perseverance.
According to him, Thursday’s demonstration sent a strong message that the NPP remains united and capable of mobilising supporters across the country within a short period.

“We have proven to the NDC that though we are in opposition, we are strong and able to mobilise even within a short period,” he stated.
The Minority Leader urged party members to place unity above every other consideration, insisting that a united party would be well positioned to return to government.
“Let us leave here with one determination—unity, unity, unity. Once you unite, the next thing is hard work, and after unity and hard work comes power,” Afenyo-Markin told the enthusiastic crowd.
He stressed that the NPP must remain focused on rebuilding and strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the next general election.
The Minority leader commended supporters for maintaining peace throughout the Democracy Under Attack protest, saying their discipline demonstrated the NPP’s respect for the rule of law and democratic principles.
“You have acted in a very peaceful manner. You are proving that the NPP will use the law to protest and express our grievances. We are not a violent party. We are law-abiding,” he said.
The Minority Leader expressed optimism about the party’s electoral prospects through unity and hard work, recounting an engagement with young people at a funeral in Krobo Odumase, where he said many expressed confidence that political change is coming.
Encouraging supporters not to lose hope, Afenyo-Markin predicted that the NPP would regain a parliamentary majority and recapture the presidency in the 2028 elections.
“I tell you, in 2028 the NPP will be in the majority in Parliament, and we will capture the Jubilee House so that Dr. Bawumia will bring the needed transformation for our country,” he declared.
The Democracy Under Attack protest was organised by the New Patriotic Party to express concerns over governance, justice and democratic accountability under the current administration. The demonstration drew supporters from across the country and concluded peacefully.
