The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially kicked off its internal reorganisation, with delegates across the country casting their votes in the regional elections to elect new executives as the party sets its sights on the 2028 general elections.
The regional executive elections were held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with several contests for the regional chairmanship position going down to the wire.
Based on provisional results declared by Electoral Commission officials who supervised the elections, 15 candidates have so far emerged as regional chairmen-elect. At the same time, the outcome in the Western North Region remains pending.
The results are as follows:
- Western Region: Ignatius Kwesi Afrifa
- Savannah Region: Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana
- Bono Region: Kwame Baffoe Abronye
- Greater Accra Region: Dr Bernard Okoe Boye
- Ashanti Region: Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA)
- Eastern Region: Jeff Konadu Addo
- Central Region: Joseph Kobinah Esibu
- Western North Region: Result pending
- Ahafo Region: Robert Sarfo Mensah
- Northern Region: Mohammed Baatima Adam (Samba)
- North East Region: Alhaji Mohammed Fuseini
- Upper East Region: Elvis Figo Awonekai
- Upper West Region: Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman
- Volta Region: Makafui Kofi Woanyah
- Oti Region: Dr Frank Yirenkyi
- Bono East Region: Ibrahim Bukari Baba
2028 preparations
The regional elections form part of the NPP’s broader efforts to rebuild and strengthen its organisational structures following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The exercise is expected to provide a new leadership structure at the regional level as the party seeks to reconnect with its grassroots base and improve its mobilisation ahead of the 2028 elections.
The newly elected regional chairmen will work with their respective executives to coordinate party activities, strengthen constituency-level structures and spearhead the NPP’s mobilisation and reorganisation efforts.
The Western North Region is the only region among the 16 where the chairmanship result remains pending.
The completion of the regional elections is expected to pave the way for the next stages of the NPP’s internal reorganisation as the party prepares for its upcoming national-level activities and the 2028 electoral contest.
