The University of Ghana will reopen for the 2026/2027 academic year on Monday, October 19, following the suspension of the strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

In a notice dated October 16, 2026, the University announced that students could begin reporting to their halls of residence on October 19, while lectures are scheduled to commence on Monday, October 26.

The notice, signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, said the decision was taken by the Business and Executive Committee at a meeting held on October 16.

Under the reopening arrangements, the random allocation of beds is scheduled for October 16, while orientation for fresh students will take place from October 21 to 23.

The University of Ghana has urged students to pay the required fees and complete their academic registration online through the Students’ STS portal or the DiGradsys portal, following the prescribed procedures.

Management also encouraged students to comply with the registration requirements to ensure a smooth reopening and facilitate the timely commencement of lectures.

The reopening follows the suspension of GAUA’s industrial action, which disrupted administrative activities and affected the operations of public universities across the country.

GAUA and the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) announced the suspension of their strike after the government addressed about 80 per cent of their grievances.

The associations have directed their members to resume work on October 19 as negotiations continue over unresolved issues.

Students have been advised to follow the University’s official announcements and complete all outstanding registration requirements ahead of the October 26 lecture commencement date.
