Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, has described his reassignment from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs as an act of divine intervention.
Ahmed Ibrahim was moved to the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial reshuffle announced on August 7, 2026.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony for Mahama Ayariga, the new Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, on Tuesday, September 1, Mr Ibrahim said events surrounding his reassignment had convinced him that God was behind the decision.

The minister recalled that he was delivering a sermon at the Global Evangelical Church on August 7 when news of the ministerial reshuffle reached him.
He said he was handed a Bible while on the pulpit, an occurrence he now considers significant following developments surrounding his reassignment.
“I am happy, and I know the hand of God is in my reshuffle. As I stated, on the 7th of August, I was on the Global Evangelical Church pulpit when the news came that I had been reshuffled, and I was given a Bible,” he said.
According to Mr Ibrahim, the presence of representatives of the Christian Council at the handing-over ceremony further reinforced his belief that the change in his ministerial portfolio was divinely guided.
He expressed gratitude for what he described as a meaningful coincidence, saying the circumstances surrounding his departure from the Local Government Ministry had strengthened his conviction that the reshuffle formed part of a bigger plan.
Following President Mahama’s reshuffle, Mr Ibrahim assumed responsibility for the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Mahama Ayariga, meanwhile, has taken over from him as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The handing-over ceremony formally marked the transition between the two ministers and provided an opportunity for Mr Ibrahim to reflect on his tenure at the ministry and his new assignment.
Mr Ibrahim’s comments add a personal and spiritual dimension to President Mahama’s August 7 reshuffle, which resulted in changes to several ministerial portfolios.
He said he remained grateful for the new responsibility and viewed the circumstances surrounding his reassignment as evidence of a divine plan.
