President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to invest more than $9 billion in job-rich sectors of Ghana’s economy between 2027 and 2030 under a new policy dubbed the ‘New Economy’.

The policy will be outlined in the 2027 national budget, which Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson is expected to present to Parliament on Thursday, November 12.

Speaking at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival on Saturday, November 7, President Mahama said the investment would form part of efforts to expand economic opportunities and create sustainable jobs across the country.

He said the next phase of his government’s agenda would focus on ensuring that Ghanaians had access to opportunities to earn decent and dignified livelihoods.

“In this presentation, we will outline our plan for what we call the New Economy. This is a bold initiative that will seek to invest over $9 billion in job-rich sectors of the economy between 2027 and 2030.

“The Volta Region is expected to benefit greatly under the New Economy policy, particularly in the areas of textiles, garments, commercial agriculture, hospitality and tourism,” he said.

President Mahama said the sectors have been identified for their potential to stimulate economic activity and create jobs in the Volta Region.

He also welcomed reports of development projects being undertaken across various districts, including health facilities, classroom blocks and feeder roads, with funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

He attributed the increased funding available to district assemblies to a directive he issued after assuming office, requiring that at least 80 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund be transferred to district administrations to support local development projects.
