The Ghana Police Service has interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old law student Ivan Baidoo in an incident on the Tema Motorway.
The Police said General Corporal Koranteng has been removed from active duty pending investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of the second-year law student.
The decision follows preliminary investigations launched after a video related to the incident went viral on social media.

Ivan Baidoo, a second-year law student, died following an accident involving a YANGO-operated motorbike on the Tema Motorway on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at about 4 p.m.
According to a petition submitted to the Ghana Police Service by the deceased’s family, Ivan had booked a YANGO ride and boarded a motorbike with registration number M 26-AB 384 from Old Ashongman to East Legon.
The family petition said the rider, identified as Samuel Arthur Wesley, told investigators at the Airport Police Station that he was chased by a member of a police patrol team riding another motorbike.
The chase began around the UPSA-Legon junction and continued towards the Tema Motorway.
The rider allegedly told investigators that the police patrol team member eventually caught up with them and “hit them from the back of the motorbike”, causing both the rider and Ivan to fall to the ground.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are, however, subject to ongoing police investigations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 12, the Ghana Police Service said General Corporal Robert Koranteng had been identified as being connected to the incident.
The Police consequently interdicted him and removed him from active duty while investigations continue.
The Police said its Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is intensifying efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding Ivan Baidoo’s death.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has also been tasked with investigating the conduct of General Corporal Koranteng in relation to the incident.
The two investigations are expected to establish what led to the death of the 23-year-old law student and determine whether the conduct of the police officer complied with the professional standards and regulations of the Ghana Police Service..
