The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old ex-convict accused of posing as a soldier and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public in Ashaiman.
The suspect, identified as Bright Atsu Kudiabor, was arrested by the Ashaiman Police on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m.
According to a statement by the Police, Kudiabor was arrested at an area known as “I Shall Return”, where he was allegedly parading himself as a soldier and using the false identity to extort money from members of the public.

The Police said Kudiabor was initially apprehended by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Ashaiman, with assistance from other members of the public.
He was subsequently handed over to the Ashaiman Police for further investigation.
A search conducted on the suspect following his arrest led to the recovery of a military camouflage uniform, according to the Police.
The recovery of the uniform has formed part of the ongoing investigations into the alleged activities of the suspect.
Kudiabor, who Police identified as an ex-convict, is currently in Police custody and assisting investigators with the case.
The Police said he will be processed for court after investigations have been completed.
The Tema Regional Police Command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution when dealing with persons who claim to be members of the security services.
The Command also encouraged the public to report individuals who falsely present themselves as soldiers or members of other security agencies for the purpose of deceiving or extorting money from unsuspecting persons.
“The Tema Regional Police Command cautions the public to be vigilant and report persons who falsely present themselves as soldiers or belong to other security Agencies to deceive or extort money from members of the public.”
The arrest comes as the Police continue investigations into alleged impersonation and extortion involving persons falsely presenting themselves as security personnel.
Authorities have urged anyone who encounters individuals suspected of impersonating security officers to report them to the appropriate authorities.
