Former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has been elected National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

Mavis Hawa Yakubu secured 783 votes to defeat Hajia Safia Mohammed, who polled 429 votes in the contest held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Her election forms part of the NPP’s efforts to constitute a new national executive team following a series of internal elections held across the party’s structures.

Former NPP General Secretary John Boadu has also been elected National Chairman of the party.

Boadu secured 2,888 votes to defeat former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who obtained 2,408 votes.

Former National Chairman Paul Afoko polled 790 votes, while former Greater Accra Regional Chairman Sammy Crabbe secured 41 votes.

Boadu’s victory marks his return to the NPP’s national executive leadership after previously serving as General Secretary.

He is expected to work with the other newly elected executives as the party reorganises its structures and prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Meanwhile, Justin Frimpong Kodua has been re-elected General Secretary of the NPP after securing a commanding 4,486 votes.

His closest challenger, former Ngleshie Amanfro Member of Parliament Sylvester Tetteh, polled 1,340 votes.

Former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi secured 162 votes, while Dr Charles Dwamena obtained 129 votes.

Kodua’s 4,486 votes represented the highest tally recorded by any candidate in the NPP’s 2026 national executive elections.

His re-election gives him another term as the party’s General Secretary and places him at the centre of the NPP’s organisational activities as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.

The elections formed part of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where delegates elected new national officers to oversee the affairs of the party.

The new leadership team is expected to focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, promoting unity and coordinating preparations for the next general election.
