Parliament has clarified that a notice informing prospective national service personnel that there were “no vacancies” for the 2026/2027 service year was an administrative communication and does not represent a policy to halt national service placements at the institution.
The clarification follows public commentary on social media after a notice displayed on Parliament’s notice board read: “No Vacancy for National Service Personnel 2026/2027. Kindly go for reposting.”
In a press release issued on Monday, October 5, Parliament said the notice had been misconstrued and stressed that it was neither a policy statement nor an indication that the institution had frozen national service placements.

Parliament also clarified that the notice did not signal any change in its support for the National Service Scheme.
According to the institution, the message was a routine administrative notice directed at prospective national service personnel who had reported to Parliament for placement.
It explained that Parliament had received more personnel than it could accommodate for the 2026/2027 service year.
As a result, affected personnel were advised to seek reposting to other institutions where their services could be accommodated.
Parliament said the situation should therefore not be interpreted as a withdrawal from, or rejection of, the National Service Scheme.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the scheme and acknowledged the contribution of service personnel to its operations.
The institution said service personnel continue to play an important role in supporting its work and administrative functions.
Parliament further expressed regret over the confusion and inconvenience caused by the wording of the notice, saying the communication was intended solely to address the limited number of available placements for the current service year.
