The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the university management said the industrial action had disrupted the effective operation and administration of the institution, making it necessary to suspend the scheduled reopening.
The university had initially scheduled Tuesday, October 13, 2026, for the start of the new academic year.

However, the continuing strike by university administrators has affected administrative operations, prompting management to postpone the reopening until further notice.
KNUST has not announced a new date for the resumption of academic activities, indicating that a revised reopening date will be communicated in due course.
The university has advised students, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to take note of the postponement and await further communication from management.
Management apologised for the inconvenience caused by the decision and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of the university community.
“Management regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders,” the statement said.
The university is expected to provide an update on the reopening date when circumstances permit the resumption of normal administrative operations.
The postponement comes amid disruptions to administrative services at KNUST following the strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators.
Some university offices have reportedly been operating below capacity since the industrial action began, affecting the institution’s administrative functions.
The strike has raised concerns about the impact of the disruption on the university’s preparations for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Students and their families have been advised to rely on official communication from KNUST management for updates on the reopening date and other arrangements for the new academic year.
