“Together, through the Accra Reset initiative, we will continue championing the Global South agenda for the betterment of our peoples,” President Mahama stated.
President Lula, a left-wing leader, secured a historic fourth term in office after defeating his right-wing challenger, Flávio Bolsonaro, in a closely contested election.
According to media reports, Lula obtained 51.79 per cent of the valid votes, becoming the first Brazilian president since the country’s return to civilian rule in 1985 to regain the presidency after losing the first round of voting.
Addressing jubilant supporters after the election, President Lula described the outcome as “a loss for negativity and lies,” and reaffirmed his commitment to democratic governance, declaring: “Long live democracy.”
