The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed reports of an impending reshuffle of its minority leadership in Parliament, insisting that no discussions have been held to replace Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his team.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the NPP remains satisfied with the current leadership of the Minority Caucus and has not considered any move to change its parliamentary leadership.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Kodua Frimpong accused individuals circulating the reports of attempting to create confusion within the party’s parliamentary ranks.

“Let me state it categorically. The party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he said.

He insisted that reports suggesting plans to replace Afenyo-Markin and his team are unfounded, adding that efforts to create divisions between the party’s leadership and the Minority Caucus would not succeed.

“Those who are busily peddling lies and trying to create this confusion among the leadership in Parliament and the mighty Minority Caucus will not succeed,” he added.

Afenyo-Markin leads the NPP’s Minority leadership in Parliament, where the party serves as the opposition to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kodua Frimpong’s comments are intended to address speculation about the future of the parliamentary leadership and reaffirm the party’s position on the matter.

Meanwhile, the NPP General Secretary has criticised individuals campaigning on social media to be selected as the party’s running mate for the 2028 general elections.

He described the approach as misguided, arguing that the party’s constitution does not provide for the selection of a running mate through public campaigns or contests.

According to him, the decision rests with the party’s presidential flagbearer in consultation with the National Council.

“There is nowhere in our constitution which says that running mate is selected through contest or through campaign. So the people who are busily urging bloggers to promote them, you are wrong,” Kodua Frimpong said.

The NPP is preparing for the next general election in 2028 following its defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The General Secretary maintained that the party has no plans to change Afenyo-Markin’s leadership and urged those promoting alternative narratives to desist from creating confusion.
