The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will open an online portal from November 1 to 10, 2026, for members seeking to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections to declare their interest for a fee of GH¢5,000.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced the new arrangement during a press briefing on Thursday, October 29, explaining that the declaration-of-interest process would mark the first stage of selecting parliamentary candidates for the next general elections.
Under the arrangement, prospective aspirants will be required to access the party’s online portal, select their preferred constituency, and submit an application accompanied by the GH¢5,000 fee.

Kodua Frimpong said the initiative forms part of a new process designed to prepare prospective parliamentary candidates for the responsibilities associated with representing the party in Parliament.
“This time around, the party has decided to come out with a new process in selecting our parliamentary candidates,” he said.
He explained that the party is introducing a formal declaration of interest to identify members intending to seek nomination to contest parliamentary seats on the NPP ticket.
“The party will, from 1st November to 10th November, open our portal for any interested person who wants to be nominated to stand on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party to declare his or her interest through our portal,” he said.
According to the General Secretary, the process would also provide an opportunity for the party to organise training and capacity-building programmes for prospective parliamentary candidates before the subsequent stages of the selection process.
He emphasised, however, that the declaration of interest should not be confused with the formal opening of nominations for the parliamentary primaries.
“We have still not opened nominations, and we have still not asked people to go around to campaign. This is just a first step towards the process of opening nominations,” Kodua Frimpong stated.
He reminded prospective aspirants, their agents and supporters that the party’s directive suspending campaign activities remained in force.
The NPP has introduced the arrangement as it begins preparations to select parliamentary candidates for the 2028 general elections, following its defeat in the 2024 polls.
The declaration-of-interest exercise is expected to precede the formal nomination process, with the party maintaining that prospective aspirants must comply with its established procedures and directives.
Members seeking to contest on the NPP ticket are therefore expected to complete the online declaration process within the November 1–10 window and await further instructions from the party regarding subsequent stages of the parliamentary primaries.
