The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on the party members in the Volta Region to take their affiliation with the NDC as a religious commitment.
Kwetey, who spoke at a gathering with supporters, expressed his concern about the apparent reluctance of some Volta youth to actively engage in party activities.
He urged them to initiate operations that would attract more support for the party.
Fifi Kwetey said, “There is nothing shameful about taking the NDC as a religion. Volta members should not hesitate to embrace the party’s principles and initiatives.”
He also addressed the generational gap and said that some young people in the region felt a sense of self-pride that prevented them from being involved in the NDC.
He emphasized the need to instill a sense of responsibility in the youth and to ensure that they contribute to shaping the party’s future.
He admitted that the party was not perfect and that it may not have given out everything that the people wanted but said that it was the responsibility of the members to renew their role in the party and make it better.
He compared the situation in the Volta Region with that in the Ashanti Region, where he said the NPP supporters were loyal and committed to their party as if it were their religion.
“They understood that their party was the NPP and that nothing could change that. They appreciated that what they did was for the party to succeed,” he said.
Fifi Kwetey urged the Volta members to introspect and to see the party as their religion. He said that if their religion did not have a message, it was their responsibility to fix it and bring changes within the religion.
