The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has voiced his confidence in the ability of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to effectively fight and combat corruption.
His remarks come in the wake of Mahama’s pledge to hold public officeholders accountable if elected president.
Speaking at a town hall event held at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Monday, August 12, Mahama outlined his commitment to tackling corruption as a key part of his broader governance strategy.
Despite facing criticism, particularly from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Franklin Cudjoe expressed his belief that Mahama could be trusted to deliver on his anti-corruption promises.
In an interview with Citi News, Cudjoe contrasted Mahama’s stance on corruption with the track record of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, suggesting that Mahama may be more reliable in this area.
“I understand the need for caution, but [President] Akufo-Addo is not John Mahama. We’ve seen both in action. [President] Akufo-Addo has backtracked on his words many times. For example, he promised no haircuts, yet we ended up with a dubious one. He also vowed to put his presidency on the line to stop illegal mining (galamsey), but the situation has only worsened, with our rivers more polluted than ever before.
“I should be cautious, but I believe I would trust John Dramani Mahama a bit more than [President] Akufo-Addo because unfortunately, [President] Akufo-Addo has not proven to be trustworthy on these matters,” Cudjoe concluded.
