Minority Leader of Parliament and Third Deputy Speaker of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, Osahne Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has hailed George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan as a ‘worthy’ successor as he hands over his responsibilities within Ghana’s delegation to the regional parliament.
Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence that the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South and Deputy Majority Leader would bring considerable experience, commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and a strong understanding of regional integration to the role.
Addressing the ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the transition is part of the broader principle that leadership must be built around service and continuity.

He expressed confidence that Ghana’s delegation would continue to make a meaningful contribution to the work of the ECOWAS Parliament under Mr Ricketts-Hagan’s leadership.
Mr Afenyo-Markin described the Deputy Majority Leader as a worthy member of Parliament capable of taking up the responsibility and advancing Ghana’s interests and contribution within the ECOWAS parliamentary framework.
He said, “I have every confidence that he will bring to this responsibility his considerable experience, commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and understanding of the importance of regional integration.”
According to him, his own experience in the ECOWAS Parliament has strengthened his conviction that regional integration must remain connected to the people of West Africa.
Ghana’s delegation, he said, has an important role to play in advancing the objectives of the ECOWAS Parliament and promoting a more integrated, peaceful and prosperous West Africa.
Despite the transition, the Minority leader would remain a member and Third Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and continue working with colleagues until his tenure ends in May 2028.
