The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central has slammed the Akufo-Addo administration for rendering anti-corruption agencies ineffective and powerless.
“To be frank with you, I have lost confidence in almost all the anti-corruption agencies because I have gone to almost all of them with cases, and as I sit here, none of them has received traction,” the MP stated.
Mahama Ayariga shared his frustrations at a press conference, citing numerous instances where reported corruption cases have seen no significant progress.
He stressed the Bank of Ghana building and unexplained price adjustments as examples.
“You know I took it to the Office of the Special Prosecutor a few months ago. I have to remind the Special Prosecutor that I have this matter in your office under investigation, but as we speak, I haven’t heard anything.”
Ayariga also expressed scepticism about the responsiveness of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
“I know if I get up and take this matter and run to EOCO, I doubt anybody will listen. Because we live in a country, under a government that has immobilized any institution fighting corruption.”
He lamented the apparent disinterest in addressing corruption within the current administration.
“So, you take up the cases to any institution, and after a while, they come out with some interesting decision that just negates the initiatives taken to fight corruption. The person principally responsible for fighting corruption has decided that he is not interested in fighting corruption,” Ayariga stressed.
