A member of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (M4C), Hopeson Adorye, has demanded the arrest and prosecution of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Kingsley Nyarko.
This follows a viral video that allegedly shows Hon. Nyarko handing a white envelope to Electoral Commission (EC) officials at a polling station in Fumesua during the recent Ejisu by-election.
Hopeson Adorye condemned the MP’s actions as criminal and a violation of electoral laws, arguing that such behaviour undermines the integrity of the electoral process.
“I say they need to arrest him and prosecute him. He has broken the law; it is a crime. You don’t need to do that at the polling station,” Adorye stated in an interview with Citi News.
The controversy began when footage circulated online depicting Kingsley Nyarko placing an envelope on the table occupied by the presiding officer and the ballot issuer at the Fumesua Pentecost Church polling station.
The EC, in a statement signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations Samuel Tettey, confirmed the incident and announced the suspension of the two temporary staff involved, pending further investigation.
The Electoral Commission has also referred the matter to the police for a criminal investigation, signalling a serious response to the allegations of electoral misconduct.
Hopeson Adorye warned that failure to act decisively could set a precedent for future electoral behaviour, stating, “If they don’t arrest him, we are all going to do the same thing at the polling station in December.”
