The Electoral Commission (EC) has removed two temporary officials from their posts amid ongoing investigations into bribery claims during the by-elections in Ejisu, Ashanti region.
The allegations surfaced after a video went viral, depicting a suspicious exchange at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station.
In the video, a man, later identified as Professor Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, is seen placing an envelope on the table where the presiding officer and ballot issuer were stationed. The incident raised concerns over the integrity of the electoral process, prompting the EC to act swiftly.
Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of operations at the EC, emphasized the commission’s commitment to maintaining high ethical standards.
“The Commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth, and transparency, which are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff,” Tettey explained.
He assured the public that the EC would not tolerate any actions that could tarnish its reputation and would impose sanctions on any officials found violating the law.
The EC has promised to release a detailed report on the findings of their ongoing investigation into the matter soon. Meanwhile, the implicated MP, Professor Nyarko, has come under scrutiny as the investigation continues to unfold.
