The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has selected Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin for induction into its Hall of Fame at the association’s 30th Media Awards scheduled for November 7, 2026.
GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour disclosed this during a meeting with the Speaker at Parliament House in Accra on Tuesday, October 27, when a delegation of the Association visited to formally invite him to the awards event.
Mr Dwumfour said the recognition is in acknowledgement of Mr Bagbin’s contribution to media development, particularly his advocacy for improved working conditions and economic welfare for journalists.

He stated that the selection has received the endorsement of President John Dramani Mahama, who is expected to attend the ceremony as special guest of honour and keynote speaker.
According to the GJA president, a number of personalities have been selected for special recognition and induction into the Hall of Fame as part of the 30th Media Awards.
“I am happy to say that with the President’s endorsement, Honourable Right Honourable Speaker, you are one of the few personalities who will also be nominated,” Mr Dwumfour said.
He explained that the association would introduce the Hall of Fame alongside the GJA Media Awards for the first time, creating an opportunity to honour individuals whose contributions have supported the development of Ghana’s media industry.
Mr Dwumfour commended the Speaker for his longstanding support for journalists, recalling his engagement with media practitioners across the country to discuss their working conditions and professional challenges.
He said the Speaker and his team had travelled across various regions to listen to journalists’ concerns, describing the initiative as evidence of his commitment to media development.
The GJA president also expressed appreciation for Mr Bagbin’s continued financial support for the association’s programmes, despite his inability to attend some events in person.
