President John Dramani Mahama has urged churches and households to provide mentorship and guidance for young people as they navigate the pressures of the modern world.

He said young people today face growing challenges from misinformation, social comparisons, and competing expectations about their identities and future, making it important for them to have trusted adults who can guide and support them.

Speaking at the 10th World Assemblies of God Congress at the Accra International Conference Centre on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, President Mahama said churches must create environments where young people can ask questions freely, receive thoughtful guidance and develop their abilities.

“Our young people are growing up in a world that is completely different from the world we grew up in. Their world offers extraordinary possibilities, but it also brings on them intense pressures,” he said.

He noted that although technology connects young people across continents, it also exposes them to a constant stream of comparisons, misinformation and competing claims about who they should become.

President Mahama said many young people were searching for purpose and carrying anxieties they struggled to express, drawing on his experience as a father who had raised children of the current generation.

He urged adults to become mentors who listen to young people, offer them opportunities to serve and demonstrate the integrity they can emulate.

“Let us be mentors who listen, offer opportunities to serve, and set examples of integrity that these young people can follow,” he said.

The President also called on churches to recognise the abilities of young people and entrust them with meaningful responsibilities, stressing that the future of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship would be shaped partly by how it nurtures the younger generation.

He made the remarks during the congress, held under the theme “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation.”
