The Ministry for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions has developed a new platform, a Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS), designed to improve service delivery for job seekers and employers.
The initiative is part of the Employment Ministry’s efforts under the third component of the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project, funded by the World Bank, which aims to support skills development and job creation.
The GLMIS database, accessible at www.glmis.gov.gh, will serve as a crucial interface that facilitates interaction between job seekers and employers.
It is designed to bridge the gap in the labour market by providing real-time data on job vacancies, skills in demand, and training needs, allowing employers to make informed decisions while enabling job seekers to find suitable employment.
Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who disclosed this indicated the Ministry is implementing component 3 of the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project, which focuses on enhancing the Labour Department’s capacity to better coordinate the labour market.”
He emphasized that the GLMIS will help address inefficiencies in the labour market by offering a more streamlined process for job matching and improving the overall coordination of employment opportunities.
The platform allows employers to declare existing job vacancies, while job seekers can upload their CVs for job matching, reducing the likelihood of job mismatches.
The Minister expressed optimism that the GLMIS would significantly reduce unemployment, underemployment, and other persistent issues in the labour market.
“As the system generates timely reports on the actual state of the labour market, the government will be in a stronger position to make informed policy interventions that can have a maximum impact on job creation and employment,” he added.
Mr. Baffour-Awuah stressed the project will help resolve logistical and infrastructural challenges that have previously hindered the Labour Department’s ability to deliver efficient services.
The GLMIS is expected to play a vital role in shaping training and development efforts by providing accurate data on skill gaps and demand and ultimately helping to build a more effective and responsive labour market in Ghana.
