Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise unity, internal cohesion and grassroots mobilisation as the party begins preparations towards the 2028 general elections.

He made the call when the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) of the NPP paid him a courtesy visit at his office to formally invite him to the party’s 2026 National Delegates Conference.

The former President stressed the importance of rebuilding and renewing the NPP by strengthening unity within the party and reconnecting with its grassroots supporters.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, a strong organisational foundation will be essential to the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 elections.

His comments come as the party intensifies preparations for its National Delegates Conference and the election of new national officers, which are expected to shape the NPP’s organisational direction ahead of the next general election.

Nana Akufo-Addo also expressed confidence in the NPP’s prospects for the 2028 elections, while emphasising that the party must first strengthen its internal structures and deepen engagement with members at the grassroots level.

The former President commended the National Officers Elections Committee for its work in organising the National Delegates Conference and overseeing the national officers election process.

He further expressed his support for the committee and confirmed that he would attend the conference.

NOEC Chairman Frederick Opare-Ansah disclosed details of the engagement in a Facebook post, saying the committee is grateful to Nana Akufo-Addo for receiving its delegation and offering counsel and support as preparations for the conference continue.

The committee said the meeting with Nana Akufo-Addo formed part of broader engagements with key figures of the NPP ahead of the 2026 National Delegates Conference.

The engagements are aimed at strengthening preparations for the election of new national officers and ensuring a smooth organisation of the conference.

The NPP is expected to use the national officers’ election to renew its leadership and organisational structures as it looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.

Nana Akufo-Addo’s call for unity and grassroots mobilisation adds to the ongoing conversation within the party about rebuilding its structures and reconnecting with supporters following the 2024 general election.

For the NPP, the coming months are expected to focus heavily on internal organisation, leadership renewal, party unity and grassroots mobilisation as preparations for 2028 gather momentum.
