The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for failing to publicly comment on allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai.

According to him, the Vice-President’s silence was disappointing, given the expectations of women and girls that she would speak out on issues concerning their safety, rights and welfare.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Wednesday, October 21, he argued that as Ghana’s first female Vice-President, Professor Opoku-Agyemang was expected to be more vocal on matters involving the protection of children, particularly girls.

He said her position in government placed her in a unique position to advocate for female students and express concern when allegations of abuse involving children emerged.

“People expect to hear the Vice-President’s voice, whether you like it or not. They expect that the female Vice-President should stand up for girls, should stand up for the female child. And the silence is very loud,” he said.

His comments follow the suspension and interdiction of Zakaria Abdulai over allegations of gross sexual misconduct and abuse involving multiple female students at Obuasi SHTS.

According to the police, a 20-year-old Form Two student of the school, accompanied by her father, lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Obuasi on August 4, 2026.
