Parliament reconvenes today, Monday, August 24, 2026, for a special five-day sitting following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin.
The recall comes less than a month after the House adjourned on July 31, bringing Members of Parliament back to the Chamber to consider what the Speaker has described as urgent parliamentary business.
Speaker Bagbin invoked Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers the Speaker to recall the House during an adjournment when circumstances require Parliament to resume sitting.

The special sitting is expected to provide MPs with the opportunity to deliberate on pressing matters that cannot wait until the next scheduled sitting of the House.
Parliament is scheduled to sit from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, 2026, during the recall period.
Among the key matters expected to come before the House are the nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
President John Dramani Mahama made the two nominations, which require parliamentary consideration as part of the approval process for ministerial appointments.
The special sitting is therefore expected to attract significant attention as Parliament resumes from its scheduled break to address the urgent matters before it.
